Somali is the mother tongue of ethnic Somalis in Greater Somalia and the Somali diaspora, while Arabic is a second official language. It is recognized as the official language in the Federal Republic of Somalia, while it's designated as a national language in Djibouti and a working language in the Somali region of Ethiopia. Moreover, Somali is also used as an adoptive language by a few neighboring ethnic minority groups such those of Kenya and Yemen.

Somali dialects are categorized into three major groups: Northern, Benaadir and Maay. Northern Somali (or Northern-Central Somali) is known as Standard Somali. Benaadir (Coastal Somali) is spoken on the Benadir coast. Interestingly, the coastal dialects have additional phonemes that Standard Somali lacks. Maay is principally used in southern districts of Somalia.

As of 2006, there were approximately 16.6 million speakers of Somali, of which approximately 8.3 million resided in Somalia. Therefore, nearly half of Somali speakers live outside Somalia. The main reason for this phenomenon is the ongoing civil war in their homeland. As a result of the civil war in Somalia, which started in the early 1990s, the population of the Somali-speaking diaspora has grown. Consequently, new groups of Somali-speaking communities have formed in the Middle East, North America and Europe.

The Somali population in the United States and Canada is significant, but the per-country distribution of Somalis in Europe is difficult to measure because the Somali expatriate community on the continent has grown with such rapidity. However, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany have relatively large Somali populations. The rising number of Somalis in Germany has given rise to the demand in translation of different documents and texts for the government, commerce and private sector. Our meticulous Somali linguists are able to satisfy the needs of these parties. Their objective is to facilitate the adaptation of this underprivileged group of immigrants to their new environment.

ReoRex is the one to call for all Somali translation needs. We will always to the utmost to ensure quality communication.
